87 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Baltic Cruise Save in St. Petersburg, Russia!

Europe ›   Russia ›   St. Petersburg ›

Editors Note: This is stopped pick-pocket #3 for St. Petersburg overall and the second stop in a row!

This testimonial was taken from a recent ★★★★★ reveiw:

Got these right before a Baltic cruise. Thought I was going overboard with the security until I got bumped in St. Petersburg... Our guide yelled, then asked me to check my pockets. Nope, nothing taken. My wallet was in the left front pocket, inside the Velcro inner pocket. The outside pocket was zipped and the safety flap buttoned. No way it would be easy to get. Overall the pants are roomy and comfortable to travel in. They dry quickly and don’t seem to attract stains.

86 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Hermitage Pick-Pocket Stopped in St. Petersburg, Russia

Europe ›   Russia ›   St. Petersburg ›

Editors Note: This is our second stop in St. Petersburg!

Dear Clothing Arts,

While touring the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 21st someone attempted to get my wallet out of my front right pocket. The museum was very crowded and going thru a crowded doorway, I felt some pressure against my right side.

We got to an open area and found that the zipper had been raised, but my wallet was still safe in the inner secure area.

Thanks so much for your great product.

83rd & 84th Stopped Pick-Pockets: Rome & Prague, Plus First Cubed® Travel Jacket Stop!

Czech Republic ›   Europe ›   italy ›   Prague ›   Rome ›

Editors Note: This is stop #21 for Rome! Left photo is the Tiber Bridge in Rome & right is the Charles Bridge in Prague mentioned below.

Dear Clothing Arts,

Just wanted to let you know, my husband and I have been wearing your great pants for many years. On our first trip with them several years ago, we went to Rome. My husband groused a bit about having to unzip and unbutton "just to get his phone" out of his pants pocket. I explained that he didn't have to since there are clever buttons he could use to fasten the tabs out of the way instead of buttoning them to protect the pockets. And what the heck, it's only a brand new iPhone. Maybe he was feeling lucky.

So he secured the phone properly in his pocket, and we headed to the train. I thought it was annoying that a very young girl pushed past us to get in the train first and then just hung on the column at the door. Everyone had to push past her to board the train! Then my husband noticed a tug at his pocket - she had gotten one button only half opened. It was so secure that she couldn't open it entirely without him distinctly feeling it, so his new phone was secure. He picked her up and placed her back on the platform while yelling "pickpocket!" and pointing to her.

She wasn't happy, but we were! Another rider was not as lucky, as a pickpocket had gotten his phone. We explained the P-cubed pants to him and his friends, and he pledged to get some before his next trip.

We both recently got new pairs of the pants and loved the new fabric which easily dries overnight after having been washed out in the sink. Great for lean packing!

This past Christmas I got your new pickpocket proof jacket for my husband. Even he noticed how beautifully it is made! The zippers are awesome. And, as expected, it is safe with lots of room for valuables to be handy yet secure.

We were in the Czech Republic in October, and he wore his jacket. And your advertising is accurate- it keeps him perfectly comfortable in all kinds of weather by simply adjusting the layers he wears underneath.

We have been to Prague before, and it's becoming increasingly popular. We were crossing the Charles Bridge which had a craft fair on it. A couple of young men were visiting with each other and talking and having a great time. Not paying attention to other pedestrians, they bumped into my husband. It turns out they were trying to pick his pocket with his phone. They failed! The jacket is as protective as it is great looking!

So thank you so much for great products! They do all you promise and look great. We will continue to be happy customers and will continue to sell them to our friends and acquaintances.

79th, 80th, & 81st Stopped Pick-Pockets: Italian Mass Transit Multi-Stop in Naples & Rome!

Europe ›   italy ›   Naples ›   Rome ›

Editors Note: This is stop #20 for Rome!

Dear Clothing Arts,

I bought my two pairs of Adventure Travel pants for my trip to Italy three years ago, including Naples which is the second riskiest city in the world for pickpockets. My pants thwarted THREE attempts on mass transit. We always try to use mass transit as it is how the locals travel.

We are all crowded in together and as they attempted to get past the button and zipper I could feel their efforts and called them out.

It is ideal pickpocket country. Actually, in hindsight, two were on the buses in Naples and one was on the subway in Rome.

I have since purchased the dress version.

Thanks,
Bill from New York, USA

76 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Paris Metro Team Thwarted Again!

Europe ›   France ›   Paris ›

Editor's Note: This is our 13th stopped pick-pocket in Paris... that we know about!

Dear Clothing Arts,

I am a great fan of your clothing. My first pants (the old cotton Business Travelers) from you were purchased in March of 2013. In June of that year they thwarted a group of 3 pick-pockets while ascending the stairs from the Paris Metro.

Sorry, but I never let you know. Since then I purchased and wear an additional 3 pairs of shorts, 2 cargo pants, 1 brown business pants and 1 jacket. I like them all.

75 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Kiev Pick-Pocket Duo Disappear Empty Handed

Europe ›   Kiev ›   Ukraine ›

Dear Clothing Arts,

I just got back from an around-the-world trip, and I thought I would follow up with you.

I know of only one instance where a pickpocket was foiled by the pants. Others may have been deterred so that they did not even try as I visited many cities (Barcelona, Rome, Sevilla, Sofia, etc., just to name a few).

Here’s the story….

It was about October 12, and we had traveled by train from Lviv, Ukraine to Kiev, Ukraine. We had three luggage bags (two large, one small); I managed the two large bags while my partner managed the small bag. Unfortunately, there was no elevator lift from the platform to the exit level, and there were about 30-40 stairs in a wide staircase. I grabbed the two large bags, one in each hand, and began the walk up the stairs. With two fifty-pound bags, my hands were occupied. The pickpockets waited until I was half way up the stairs, so I was in the middle of the ascent. I wasn’t aware of them, but I suddenly felt my left pocket begin to open. I wasn’t worried because my credit cards and money were securely in the inside pocket, but I knew immediately what was happening. I aggressively turned to investigate and intended to knock whoever was behind me down the 15 stairs. But alas, the two women aborted their mission and brushed on by me quickly. I presume that they understood their vulnerable position. But I was happy as the entire incident only lasted about 3 seconds, and they were gone—with nothing.

70th & 71st Stopped Pick-Pockets: Two Stops In One Trip - Rome & Barcelona!

Barcelona ›   Europe ›   italy ›   Rome ›   Spain ›

(Left) Arch of Constantine in Rome, Italy | (Right) Aerial View of Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain

Editor's Note: This stopped pick-pocket story originally comes from a ***** star review on our Pick-Pocket Proof® Adventure Travel Pants. Our Founder / Designer immediately reached out and was able to get some more detailed information on the stopped pick-pocket experiences. Check out Clark's original review and full email below!

Dear Clothing Arts,

I don't know if you remember, however I ordered the Travel Pants, but they were not scheduled to arrive until after we departed. You answered the phone as you were leaving the shop, and personally got me the Adventure pants - overnight - as a replacement!! (BTW-I just ordered the Travel pants yesterday in anticipation of my 6th trip to Russia, searching for the remains of Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov. The GD, brother of Tsar Nikolas, was actually the last Tzar and was murdered in June 1918 outside the city of Perm.)

Incident #1 - Barcelona

We were walking on a side street of Las Ramblas, actually in the market - fish, meat, pastries, cheese, vegetables...and it was crowded! I felt someone brush against me - not unusual, however their hand was trying to open my front right pocket. I never got a good look at the perpetrator due to the movement of the crowd.

Incident #2 - Rome

I have lived and worked in many countries and try to blend. I usually buy a local newspaper and shove it under my arm, hoping the locals will think I belong. Unfortunately I did not have time to purchase a paper and was trying to figure out the train platform and departure time. I just looked lost and harried and hence a target for being bumped into with the intent of relieving me of my wallet. The individuals who "bumped" into me were very apologetic and, of course, worried about the mess they had made with my clothes, especially the pants which they tried to smooth out! Sorry about their luck!

68 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Map Wielding Bandit Blocked in Lisbon!

Europe ›   Lisbon ›   Portugal ›

Walking up to The Santa Justa Lift in Lisbon, Portugal

Editor's Note: This is our second stop in Lisbon! Check out the first one (stop #62) here!

Dear Clothing Arts,

Four couples were in Lisbon, Portugal in October of this year. We were walking through the streets just past the city elevator, the Santa Justa Lift, when I noticed someone touching the back of my pants. I quickly turned to find a young man with a city map in his left hand opened to hide his right hand. He had tried to open my left rear pocket and steal my passport with his right hand. I smiled and moved away from him. He stopped, looked frustrated and turned 180 degrees and walked away without looking at his map.

I can understand his frustration – I find it difficult to securely zip and button my rear pocket. And that’s a good thing! When I travel I always wear Clothing Arts pick picket proof pants. Always!

66th & 67th Stopped Carterista: Double Stop in Barcelona!

Barcelona ›   Europe ›   Spain ›

View Of Barcelona from Parc Guell

Editor's Note: This is our 6th and 7th stop in Barcelona! The only cities with higher pick-pocket counts are Rome and Paris.

Dear Clothing Arts,

The check-in clerk reminded me that I should keep my wallet in a front pocket. Since I had my wallet safely secured in my left rear pocket I did not move it. I had two attempts to get at the wallet. Not one of them looked back at me after he tried. Both attempts occurred while on the steps. Once walking down stairs (I saw him after the attempt), and once walking up stairs. I felt fingers sliding along the zipper both times. Had pants buttoned also.

65 Stopped Pick-Pocket: Red Square Ruse in Moscow!

Europe ›   Moscow ›   Russia ›

St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square in Moscow, Russia

Editor's Note: This is our third stop in Russia and our first in Moscow!

Chuck recently called in to let us know about his stopped pick-pocket experience. Here is his story told to our Founder/Designer Adam:

"We were on a Viking River Boat tour of Russia and had just arrived in Moscow. On our first day there, we went to Red Square, and their annual fall festival was going on. Sculptures were depicting the season like giant pumpkins, and interestingly, a surfboard tank was set up. We walked up to watch the surfers in that tank, and my wife was standing with me on my left side. I felt something tug on my left front pocket and turned around to see what was going on. All of a sudden, someone behind me in line rushed ahead to get away. The button flap had stopped him!

He was able to get the zipper down up to the flap to get a few fingers in but couldn’t get the button flap opened before I noticed what was happening. As soon as I did, he was gone.

I had about $200 in the pocket, and it was held together by a money clip, but he couldn’t get the clip out. When he tried to pull it free, it wouldn’t fit through with the flap still there and that altered me.

My wife was standing on that side, and she felt him bump her as he tried to pull away. This alerted her to someone trying to pick my pockets as well. She watched with me as he disappeared into the crowd ahead."
