Editor's Note: This is your 42nd stop in Rome... that we know about! Dean O. from Edmonds, Washington, was wearing a pair of our Adventure Traveler Pants when the pick-pocket made their attempt on his recent trip to Europe.
Dear Clothing Arts,
On Friday, February 7, 2025, in Rome, Italy, after touring the Spanish Steps, we got onto the Rome metro. I wore the Clothing Arts pants with the pocket zipped inside the outer pocket that was zipped and then covered with a strap that was buttoned. I store personal things in both side pockets. I decided to use this method instead of using my money belt.
At rush hour, we boarded a train near the Spanish Steps, rode to the main Rome terminal station, and transferred. We needed to switch subway lines and travel one additional stop to the Circus Maxima subway stop.
As we entered, I let others onto the train. Several young women boarded before me. The subway car was tightly packed and standing room only. After the subway car’s door closed, I spent my time concentrating on my cell phone’s Spelling Bee puzzle.
Soon, I felt a slight tug on my pocket that held my wallet. I looked at the pocket and noticed the outside zipper was halfway up, next to the button. Across was a young woman, and it appeared she tried to get into my pocket. I used my forearm to push her lightly away from me. And then we arrived at the stop. She had a shocked look on her face.
After we exited the subway train, I re-zipped the outer pocket again. Thanks to the Clothing arts double-zipper plus button pants, there was no chance that the woman could have accessed the pocket.
The next day, a Rome police officer told us to beware of pickpocket thieves. And the announcements, in both Italian and English, told us to beware of pickpockets.
Thank you,
Dean O. from Edmonds, Washington
